Frequently Asked Questions

The most frequently asked questions have been included here. If you do not find an answer for your question, contact us without hesitation.

1.How much time does it take for Data Recovery?

It is not possible to estimate the exact time needed for a particular data retrieval case. However, most of our clients get their media returned within 2-5 business days. Still, it is not a very accurate estimate for all cases. There are cases so minute that the retrieval is completed within couple of hours. On the other hand, there are some very delicate and complicated cases which require a full week. Therefore, without analyzing your data, it is impossible to predict the exact time your case will need.

The time of the data retrieval process depends upon the cause of the damage, extent of data loss, and the medium. Therefore, no two cases are exactly similar in nature. So, if you need your data quickly avail our emergency services. To know more about our data retrieval options please call a representative immediately.

2. What is the Charge That You Take for Data Recovery?

Here again, it is impossible to predict the exact amount without analyzing your media and knowing what exactly your problem is. We usually charge the fee depending upon the time and effort required for the retrieval process. Therefore, it is impossible to tell the exact price because every case is different.

We understand that the price is one of the most important factors but unfortunately, it is impossible to tell you a fixed price without analyzing the media that needs a repair. We have handled cases that required almost no retrieval and therefore the client was not charged anything. One the other hand, there are complicated enough cases which required long time and dedication and the price was more than the average.

We also believe that the data retrieval process should be as transparent as possible and therefore, we want to make as many adjustments necessary as possible.

The features of our pricing system includes the following:

  • The initial evaluation is provided free of cost and a special report for your project is generated. The report contains exact details of what needs to be included and what are the adjustments that are necessary. You can have an idea of the price from this report. If you don’t like it, you may withdraw your media from our offices without having to pay anything.
  • We don’t have any mid process payments. You pay the whole charge after completion of the project.
  • We do not have any hidden fees or costs. You will be notified about the exact pricing for your project in the initial report and that is the exact amount of fees you’d have to pay.

We also offer discounts to special groups of people, including:
  • The Military
  • Computer repair shops
  • IT staff
  • NGOs
  • Educational institutions, teachers, students
  • Medical institutions and hospitals

Ask for discounts from your representative if you fall in any of the above mentioned groups.

WARNING: BEWARE OF THE COMPANIES THAT OFFER FLAT FEES!

In Data retrieval industry, there are many players. While some of the players are genuine there are no dearths of those companies that are here to just cheat people and earn illicit money. One of major common symptoms of these companies is that they often offer services on a flat fee. In fact, it is just impossible to offer data retrieval services at a flat fee. Why? Just think about an automobile repair shop. Can he offer you a flat fee without knowing the problem of your car? He doesn’t know what your problem is before checking your automobiles’ engine. If he fixes a price for all customers, either he or the customer will be in a loss. Similarly, in data retrieval industry, we cannot offer you a fixed price. As we don’t know what your specific requirements are, it is impossible for us to fix a flat fee.

Therefore, the companies that offer data retrieval services at a flat fee are either earning more money than required or they are going to lose money for fixing the price lower than actual expense. It is therefore advisable to beware of the companies which offer data retrieval services at a flat fee.

3. What are the Chances of Getting my Data Recovered?

Well, Data Recovery Chicago has one of the highest success rates in data retrieval industry. Our success rate is more than 90% and that tells about the chances of getting data recovered. Well we are successful in nine out of 10 cases and therefore there are pretty more chances of getting your data recovered through Data Recovery Chicago.

Still, it is impossible for us or anyone else to say that your data will be 100% recovered. It depends on various factors, such as the amount of damaged data, extent of loss and the storage media etc. After thorough analysis, only a qualified engineer can tell you whether your data can be recovered or not.

We try our best to recover every byte of data from your media but in some cases, it may be impossible to recover data. And when we say that it’s impossible, there is hardly any possibility that your data will be recovered by any other company. We employ the best engineers and use best data retrieval tools to extract data from damaged media and more often than not, we become successful. So, you can expect that your media will be recovered in most of the cases.

4. I have Lost My Data, what Should I Do Now?

The best thing that you can do once you discover data loss is to stop using your media right away. If you continue using the media, the data may get lost forever and nobody on the earth can recover the lost data.

If you are not a professional data retrieval engineer, do not try to repair the affected media on your own. Moreover, if you are advised to keep the media in a freezer, don’t do that. We also advise not to go for data retrieval software available in many of the web sites. If you adopt the

software, you might be in more trouble than usual. Similarly, trying to forcefully rebuild the data base can create more problems too.

The only best thing you can do after data loss is to disconnect the media from power supply and stop using it. There is no better way to save additional cost and the health of the media.

5. Will Data Recovery Void My Warranty?

Usually, we try our best to save and not to void the warranty. However, there are some critical cases in which we cannot work without voiding the warranty. In such cases, we offer a label and a certificate that the warranty has been voided by our engineers due to the requirement of repairing the media. The manufactures usually honors the label. However, if you are interested in keeping the warranty safe anyway, talk to a representative of the company the media is from. They can tell you the way the media should be repaired without voiding the warranty. You can tell the process to our representative and we will be happy if that can be followed during repair of your media.

6. How Do I Dispatch the Media?

There are three ways to bring your media to our offices
  • Visit our offices and leave your media there.
  • Ship your media to us through courier service. However, do be careful not to damage the media while mailing it to us.
  • If you choose emergency services, we can pick your media up from your location.
The best thing is to discuss the fact with the Data Recovery Chicago agent about how to dispatch the media and he will tell you the best possible method.

7. Is it Necessary to Take the Drive out?

No, it’s not necessary to take the drive out of your system. However, if you are professional and confident that you can get it out safely, you can do that. Although we just need the drive to perform retrieval, it is better if you can hand over the whole system. If you need to ship the media, you can ship the whole system and we will take care of the rest. In case of laptops, it is more fruitful to send the whole system than just the drive. Moreover, the parts of any system

is delicate and removing some pat forcefully may lead to irreparable damage. That is why it is better to keep the system intact. We have professionals who are experts in handling computer systems and with us, you can be assured that your data and the system is in best hands

8. How Will I Get The Recovered Data Back?

There are various options to get back the required data. The most common steps are as follows
  • Purchase an external drive. You can buy an external hard drive from us on which we will write the whole lot of recreated data.
  • Give us your own external drive. You can give us your own external hard drive and we will write all recovered data on that drive and return it to you.
  • We can record the data on a CD/DVD. If the amount of recovered data is not large enough, we can write them onto a CD/DVD
  • We can email the data or upload it in a remote location. For small amounts of data, we can send them via e mail or upload them to a secured location from which you can download it from that location.
Please remain aware that confidentiality is top concern for us, no matter what type of method you chose for getting the recovered data back. We strictly follow confidentiality procedure for all types of data retrieval cases. Please talk to our agent to know more about our confidentiality clauses.

9. Can Only One File or a Few Ones can be Recovered?

Why not? We deal with all types of data retrieval cases and we know that even a small amount data can be important enough. That is why we recover all volumes of data retrieval with the same passion. If you need to recover only one file or a few files, we are always ready to do that. However, you must ask yourself whether the data that you want to recover can be recreated within a short span of time. If so, it is better that you recreate the data rather than spending your money in data retrieval.

10. Is there a Guarantee that My Private Data will Remain Private?

Of course. We are in the business for more than 10 years and during that time of service we have dealt with all the cases with 100% confidentiality. In fact, if we don’t follow strict confidentiality rules, customers won’t want to bring their problems related with data to us. Therefore, it is important to realize that any data retrieval company will maintain strict confidentiality laws. At least, we do that.
